FYC Guest Artist Series


Summer 1999

The FYC is proud to feature several renowned Guest Artists throughout the Summer Camp and Academic year. Students gain a unique look into the world of performance as told by our esteemed guests. These encounters are often once in a lifetime, as many of the FYC Guest Artists visit the camp while on tour in the United States.

During the FYC Summer Music Camp '99, the following Guest Artists were featured:

The Hungarian Virtousi

(June, 1999)

Hungarian Virtuosi
Highly acclaimed worldwide, the Hungarian Virtuosi based in Budapest, is comprised largely of graduates and faculty of the esteemed Liszt Academy of Music. Frequent appearances include Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the famed Vigado and Parliament in Budapest, and on the programs of Hungarian Radio & Television. Performance tours are throughout Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Recordings are on the Hungaroton, Naxos, and PROdigital labels, one with flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal. The ensemble is under the leadership of Artistic Director and violin soloist, Miklos Szenthelyi. A Dean Professor at the Liszt Academy, he is winner of several competitions, has eleven recordings, and was awarded the coveted Liszt Prize in 1985. He was also the recipient of the Star of Hungary Commander Order in 1994.

The FYC has been proud to feature these fine artists, presenting capacity attendance master classes through its school based program in Coconut Creek:

Guitarist, Sergiu Puccini

(October, 1999)

Argentian guitarist, Sergiu Puccini performs as soloist in Gstaad, Venezuela, Cuba, New York and San Francisco. He plays recitals and concerts in Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, and has several world premiere performances of commissioned concertos. His compact discs include the music of such composers as Villa Lobos. He serves as Dean of Instituto Nacional de Musica of Rosario, and Music Coordinator for the Secretary of Culture of Argentina.
Sergiu Puccini

Pianist, Vovka Ashkenazy

(November, 1999)

Vovka Ashkenazy
Of the esteemed Russian musical family, Vovka Ashkenazy made his debut with the London Symphony under Sir Richard Hickox. He has appeared in such venues as Royal Festival Hall, Berlin Philharmonic, Sydney Opera House, and has recorded extensively for DECCA and Merlin labels.

Violinist & Vocalist, Amber Leigh

(March, 2000)

Fourteen year old violinist & vocalist, Amber Leigh, is quickly gaining national attention as an energetic Blues/Rock Fiddler.

Amber Leigh performs for NBPS students with the help of Freshman, Stephen Sinatra and FYC Artistic Director Glenn S. Quader. The performances were presented to two capacity audiences.

Director of Jazz Studies at Florida International University, J. Richard Dunscomb

(March, 2000)

Dick Dunscomb is Director of Jazz Studies at Florida International University. Recognized nationally and internationally as one of the leading experts in the field of jazz education, he is very active as a clinician, adjudicator, author, guest conductor, and consultant. He has received numerous awards, including being honored in the IAJE Hall of Fame. Dick is the American Coordinator for the prestigious Montreux, Switzerland Jazz Festival and president of the International Foundation for Jazz (IFJ). He is the reviewer of all new music published in the jazz field for BD GUIDE magazine. Professor Dunscomb's degrees are from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois.

Violinist, Philip Quint

(March, 2000)

Phillip Quint
First Prize winner of Carnegie Hall Competition, Paganini Competition in Moscow, and Mendelssohn Competition in St. Petersburg, Russian born Philip Quint, with a Master's from Julliard under Dorothy DeLay, has performed with orchestras worldwide, under conductors as Maxim Shostakovich.
